Despite my previous blog post and the strengthening sponsorship and nomination processes bill not being passed, the Department of Home Affairs has announced that the new Skills in Demand visa, will in fact replace the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa on Saturday 7 December 2024. You can see the announcement here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/news-media/archive/article?itemId=1269
The exact details of this change have not yet been announced, however the much anticipated list has been published, which you can access in the link above. It includes some occupations that it was uncertain would be on the list, including for example, cook and chef. Examples of other occupations that have been added to the list are childcare worker, yoga instructor, and out of school hours care worker.
One of the other exciting new changes announced above is that all occupations on the new list will be able to directly apply for permanent residence if they have an employer willing to sponsor them for a subclass 186 visa and they have a skills assessment.
